About Northern Numbers

Free, accurate financial calculators built for Canadians. No sign-up required. No paywalls. Just free, accurate Canadian financial calculators.

Why We Built This

Canadian personal finance is genuinely different from American personal finance. TFSAs, RRSPs, FHSAs, CPP, OAS, HST, CMHC insurance, the mortgage stress test, land transfer tax — these are Canadian realities that generic financial calculators from the US completely ignore or get wrong.

We built Northern Numbers because we couldn't find a single Canadian site that offered accurate, up-to-date calculators for all of these things in one place. The existing options were either American tools with no Canadian context, outdated government pages that hadn't been updated in years, or paywalled tools buried behind financial advisor sign-ups.

Northern Numbers exists to fix that. Every calculator on this site is built specifically for Canada, uses current rates and rules, and is free to use — no account required.

What We Offer

Northern Numbers currently offers 30 free Canadian financial calculators covering mortgages, registered accounts, taxes, retirement income, real estate, and personal finance planning. Every calculator is built with Canada-specific rules — from the OSFI mortgage stress test to the CRA's RRIF prescribed withdrawal factors to provincial land transfer tax brackets.

Our calculators include:

  • Registered accounts — TFSA growth, TFSA contribution room, RRSP, FHSA, RESP, RRIF minimum withdrawals
  • Mortgages and real estate — Mortgage payments, mortgage affordability (with stress test), land transfer tax for all provinces, rent vs buy comparison
  • Tax calculators — Federal and provincial income tax for all 13 provinces and territories, paycheck and take-home pay, GST/HST for all provinces
  • Retirement planning — CPP benefit estimates, OAS and GIS eligibility, RRIF withdrawals
  • Personal finance — Budget tracker, net worth calculator, inflation and purchasing power, compound interest, loan and car loan payments

We update every calculator when federal budgets, CRA announcements, or provincial changes affect the underlying rates. All 2026 figures reflect the latest available data from the CRA, Statistics Canada, Service Canada, and provincial governments.

Our Commitment to Accuracy

Every calculator on Northern Numbers is built from primary sources — CRA tables, Statistics Canada data, OSFI guidelines, and provincial government tax schedules. We verify formulas mathematically before publishing, and review and update the underlying rates when a federal budget, CRA announcement, or provincial change affects them.

That said, our calculators provide estimates, not guaranteed financial advice. Tax rules are complex, personal situations vary, and rates change. We always recommend verifying important numbers with CRA My Account, your financial institution, or a qualified professional before making major financial decisions.

If you find an error or outdated rate, please let us know through the contact page — tell us the calculator, the inputs you used, and what you expected to see. Accuracy is our highest priority and we take correction requests seriously.

Who We Are

Northern Numbers is an independently operated Canadian website, based in Ontario, Canada. It is not a bank, lender, government agency, accounting firm, or financial adviser, and nothing on this site is personalized financial, tax, or legal advice.

Our email is [email protected] — see the Contact page for how to report an error or ask a question.

Free — Always

Northern Numbers is and will always be free to use. No account. No paywall. No calculator locked behind a subscription. We plan to support the site through Google AdSense advertising if and when advertising is enabled, which would let us keep everything accessible without charging users.
