1 Who We Are

Northern Numbers (northernnumbers.ca) is a free Canadian website providing financial calculators for personal use. We are based in Canada and operate in accordance with Canada's federal privacy legislation, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

We are not a financial institution, investment dealer, or registered financial advisor. We provide tools to help Canadians understand and estimate their financial situations — nothing more.

2 Information We Collect

We collect minimal information. Here is a complete list of what we may collect:

• Contact form submissions — name, email address, and message (only when you voluntarily contact us)
• Analytics data — anonymous usage data collected by Google Analytics (pages visited, time on site, device type, general location)
• Cookie data — small files stored in your browser for analytics and future advertising purposes

We do not collect:

• Financial information entered into our calculators
• Names, emails, or personal details unless you provide them via the contact form
• Payment or billing information of any kind
• Social insurance numbers or government identification

3 Calculator Data

All calculations performed on Northern Numbers happen entirely within your browser. When you enter numbers into a calculator — your income, mortgage amount, RRSP balance, or any other financial information — that data:

• Never leaves your device
• Is never sent to our servers
• Is never stored in a database
• Is never shared with any third party
• Disappears when you close or refresh the page

4 Contact Form

If you contact us through the contact form on our website, we collect only the information you voluntarily provide: your name, email address, and message.

We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry. We will not:

• Add you to a mailing list without your explicit consent
• Share your contact information with any third party
• Use your email for marketing or promotional purposes

Contact form submissions may be stored in our email inbox for a reasonable period in order to maintain a record of our correspondence.

5 Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use Northern Numbers. This helps us improve our calculators and content. Google Analytics may collect the following anonymous information:

• Pages visited and time spent on each page
• How you arrived at the site (search engine, direct link, etc.)
• Device type and browser (e.g. iPhone, Chrome)
• General geographic location (country and city — not your exact address)
• New vs. returning visitor status

This data is aggregated and anonymous. Google Analytics does not identify you personally. Google may use this data in accordance with their own privacy policy.

6 Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored in your browser. Northern Numbers may use cookies for the following purposes:

• Analytics cookies — Used by Google Analytics to track anonymous usage data (as described above)
• Advertising cookies — May be used in the future by advertising partners (such as Google AdSense) to show relevant ads based on your interests
• Functional cookies — May be used to remember your preferences on the site

7 Advertising

Northern Numbers does not currently display paid advertisements. However, we may display advertisements in the future through third-party advertising networks such as Google AdSense.

If and when advertising is enabled:

• Advertising partners may use cookies (including Google's DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites
• You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings
• You can also opt out through the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page

Northern Numbers will never allow advertising that is deceptive, inappropriate, or that compromises the integrity of our calculators. Our results are never influenced by advertisers.

8 Third-Party Links

Our calculators and educational content may include links to third-party websites such as the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Government of Canada pages, or financial institutions.

These websites are governed by their own privacy policies. Northern Numbers is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of any third-party websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

9 Minors

Northern Numbers is not directed at or intended for use by minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete that information.

10 Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected:

• Calculator data — Not retained at all. It exists only in your browser session.
• Contact form messages — Retained in our email inbox for as long as needed to address your inquiry, then deleted.
• Analytics data — Retained by Google Analytics for 26 months by default, after which it is automatically deleted.

11 Your Rights

Under PIPEDA and applicable Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:

• Access — Request access to any personal information we hold about you
• Correction — Request that we correct inaccurate information
• Withdrawal of consent — Withdraw consent for us to use your information at any time
• Deletion — Request that we delete your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements
• Complaint — File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe your privacy rights have been violated

12 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we do:

• The updated policy will be posted on this page
• The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised
• Significant changes will be noted prominently

We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of Northern Numbers after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
